In mid-May, Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP) will begin construction of a turf field honoring Yeardley Reynolds Love ’06. This turf field will replace an already-existing grass field, located between the softball and the Batza fields, on the school’s campus. In February, Sister Patricia McCarron, headmistress of NDP, and members of the school’s Building and Grounds Committee met with

Hampton National Historic Site

One of my favorite things to do is to walk around the grounds of the Hampton Historic site, which preserves the memories of the people who lived there beginning in the early 1800’s, until moral and economic changes ended this way of life.  The integrity with which the land and buildings are preserved by the National Park Service allows you to fully imagine the lives of the enslaved African

Hampton Halloween Express Thumbnail

Hampton Halloween Express

Every year one knows it is the start of the holiday season when the train tracks begin going up at Kenilworth Mall. But did you know a small version of similar tracks lies right within our neighborhood? While walking around the neighborhood one morning, I spied a series of miniature train tracks running through a neighbor’s yard. I was intrigued. Little houses and depots stood around the track,

“Friendship Knows no Bounds… Jefferson, Lafayette, and Ridgely”

The Women’s Committee of Historic Hampton Inc. had a fundraiser this Spring at the Engineer’s Club in Mt. Vernon.  Nancy Smith, the president, hosted General Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, as they reminisced about their roles in the founding of America and in the days surrounding the French revolution.  Jefferson was minister to France in 1789 when revolutionary zeal was

Garden Share

Pachysandra. Hasta. Russian Sage. Basil.  These are just some of the things that we have shared or been offered to help our garden grow.  Last month when Kelly Hellmuth offered up some pachysandra in an email blast, my husband and I headed over to dig up some flats to fill an area in our front yard where we had just removed some scraggly juniper. We had planted an entire hillside at our

Trees of Hampton Thumbnail

Trees of Hampton

Have you ever traveled on Google Earth and looked at the canopy of green that surrounds us and Loch Raven Reservoir?  We are an oasis near the beltway and downtown Towson. Trees help our air and water quality.  They suppress urban sounds and provide a cool respite in the summer. Taking care of our trees sometimes takes more than a little TLC.  Branches fall in storms, and should be removed.

HIA’s Second Annual Block Party

The Hampton Improvement Association's2nd Annual Block Party featured live music, lots of barbecue, beer, delicious side dishes prepared by our neighbors, ice cream, games, and lots of fun.  Over 110 people and several furry friends attended our celebration.
